Heraklion is the capital and largest city of Crete. It is the seat of the Decentralized Administration of Crete, the Region of Crete (it returned as the capital in 1971), as well as the seat of the Church of Crete and its Archbishop.
Heraklion is located on the northern coast of central Crete, opposite the island of Dia (Dia), in the Gulf of Heraklion. The beaches of Heraklion are characterized by the existence of small hills a few tens of meters high and small flat pieces.
Heraklion also has one of Greece's largest airports in traffic today (second overall after Athens and first in charter flights), the "Nikos Kazantzakis" airport, as well as a port with frequent ferry connections mainly to Piraeus, Santorini and other islands.
The Municipality of Malevizio, with a total area of 292.70 sq.km., is located west of the Heraklion Urban Complex and borders to the east with the Municipality of Heraklion, to the southwest with the Municipality of Anogeia, to the south with the Municipalities of Heraklion and Gortyna and to the west with the Municipality Mylopotamos while to the north, it is washed by the Cretan Sea. Administratively, it falls under the Prefecture of Heraklion. The permanent population of the Municipality according to the EL.STAT census. of 2011, amounts to 24,864 inhabitants.

Rodia or Rogdia is a picturesque settlement, built amphitheatrically on the slope of Marmarokefala, at an altitude of 300m. Rodia with its panoramic view towards the wider area of Heraklion and Dia is located approximately 16km northwest of the capital.
The local community of Rodia includes the settlements of Agios Dimitrios, Kapetanaki Metohi, Linoperamata, Moni Savvathianon, Paleokastro, Pantanasa and Plaitis. According to the 2011 census, there are 1,326 residents in the area, with 797 living in Rodia. The residents are engaged in agriculture, however, there are several restaurants in the area, which are filled by Heraklionites and foreigners who choose to enjoy their food with a wonderful view.
In the beautiful settlement is the Venetian Mansion of Georgios and Franciscus Modinos, which was declared a protected monument and is a typical example of a residence of the Venetian period.
